>> live and in hd, is abc 7 breaking news. >> a young man is fighting for his life after being struck by a taxi. we begin on storm watch. snowmaggedon moves closer to creating havoc. our region not expecting to feel the snow. >> at the least we are expecting rain and frozen precipitation. let's get right to bob ryan. he is tracking what we can expect. >> we are going to get off easy compared to a lot of folks to our notes. let's show you the cast of characters. it is a sudden storm that is producing mainly rain. here is the other went out to the west. sometimes folks get confused. this will follow the track like this. this will follow a track like this.

and wait until i tell you what is happening all around new england. >> and you said, this storm is serious business for people living in new england. state law enforcement agencies in massachusetts are preparing for the worse. this was the scene at massachusetts emergency management headquarters earlier today. police and other law-enforcement people want people off the road. there are many in the region that were part of the mad rush to travel back from new england. tom? >> it was going better for some than others. there were people rushing to get out of new england who we talked to. if you look behind me at reagan these planes probably will take off and the next 24 hours, but chances are they will not be going to the boston or new york area because already hundreds of flights are canceled for tomorrow. >> it was crazy. >> we caught up with a resident right after she landed on one of the last flight to reagan out of

logan airport. >> i believe there was one at 6:00. and then i think that was it. >> she flew down to visit a friend in .d.c. >> i was lucky there only two seats left. >> airlines have been waiving fees for passengers to change flights to avoid the storm. while many were glad to get out of boston before it hit -- others are trying to get to new england ahead of the storm. after attending a conference, abby is flying back to new england tonight. >> i am heading into twoo feet of snow. >> at a crowded union station deceiving, some passengers were trying to get to new england before the storm. >> i have a sandwich and a bottle of water. >> many travelers say new england is the last place they want to be right now. michelle is glad to be spending the night at home in waldorf.

tomorrow. bob will update his forecast in a few minutes. >> we have breaking news coming in from maryland were a teenager is fighting for his life after being struck by a vehicle in a hit and run. this happened on wheeler road in oxon hill. autria what did you hear? >> they are not giving up too much information but this is the intersection of iverson and wheeler avenue. a young boy around 15 years old was trying to cross wheeler when a cab hit him and took off. it was thanks to eyewitnesses that police were able to track that cabthey were able to track down the driver of the cab. the driver is being questions as the boy who'd suffered serious injuries is in the hospital in critical condition. here is what police have to say

office and still be allowed to collect a pension. richard reeve to explain why this is happening. >> we often hear about the scandals but not about the pensions that convicted politicians collect. jonathan leopold is not alone. one state delegate refuses to close that a legal loophole. anne arundel county executive jonathan leopold convicted last weekend of misconduct will still get a pension check from taxpayers. $30,000 per year for the rest of his life. jack johnson former prince george's county executive, will continue to get his pension. $50,000 per year, even though he is in federal prison for extortion and bribery. remember the wiretap that caught him telling him to tell this life to hide cash in her underwear? and former baltimore mayor

the pension bill again this session but he says the only way to get his colleagues to consider it was to water it down. as it stands, the bill would only create a tax force to study the issue of convicted elected officials and their pensions. >> virginia lawmakers have passed their own law last year preventing convicted officials from collecting state pensions many of you just lost the abc -- just watched "scandal" starring kerry washington as the political fixer. washington has taken an active role in politics and she explains why to katie kouric. >> we do not have a choice. even if you're not thinking about politics politics is thinking about you. the decisions made in washington, those decisions affect our lives. affect every choice we make but we have to take responsibility for participating in our democracy. >> washington was an active

have been through some historic storms, will be an historic storm in new england. we have the winter weather advisories just because briefly there will be a little bit of ice, especially folks in the shenandoah valley. our current temperatures around the area. in washington, 38 degrees. folks in frederick, 34. the roads are 35 degrees. so be careful early in the morning because some of this rain -- this is the southern branch but it is sort of a double billed coming together over new england. right now there is some iciness around blackburg. here is the other brands. here is another area out to our west. they are on the two of this cast of characters that because of what is happening in one branch of the jet stream to the north the other branch is diving to the south and together they

will come together and form this super stortmm. over the last 12 hours, you can see this beginning to come together. when this happens, it means that a lot of the bypasses us in washington. but not the plus for new england. those areas and red are blizzard warnings. here is the futurecast as we go to the next 24 hours starting about 1:00 a.m. there is that area of rain with a little bit of ice. watch as these two systems come together and become one monster off the coast. the snow continues. a major snowstorm, not only a snowstorm but because of the ferocity of the wind by friday, tomorrow night at this time, a major storm bringing in a lot of cold beer and it will come in on us as some left over snow flurries but perhaps producing

as much as -- and some areas 37 inches of snow in those darker areas. central massachusetts. that is 3 feet of snow. around us and parts of pennsylvania, four inches of snow. those areas of red could be historic. as we go through the overnight hours, for us, a few light morning rainshowers around wash. and maybe a bit of ice in montgomery county. some spots. be careful early tomorrow morning. there will be plenty of salt out there. then we will see a little bit of light rain. then later on in the afternoon that monster gets wound up, and it will be the lead story in all sorts of news. it will be in the news for days to come. that will bring in some colder air possibly with some afternoon and evening snow flurries,
